Irregular period when first starting?

Hi! I'm turning 14 at the end of the year & got my first period at the end of last month. If my period were regular, it would be coming in the next couple of days, but i'm guessing not. So i have some questions about irregular periods... Do periods still follow the cycle even when irregular? Meaning, i don't get my period this month but would it come "on time" next month? Or it just comes any time? What does skipping a period mean? I'm not sure if you understand this question and i'm not sure how to elaborate :( THANKS SO MUCH! (:
