Transmission Fluid not working?

i have a car with a stick shift. its not a lot of trouble for me to drive, but i still prefer automatics anyway. so i was at walmart yesterday and i saw some "automatic transmission fluid". i didn't know much about it, but i figured it would be worth a shot. so i bought a bottle and put it in the car, but i still have to shift manually just like before. what am i doing wrong? did i not use enough fluid?
