How can i soften a potatoe without boiling it?

Im making mashed potatoes. When i checked the potatoes they seemed soft enough but after having added my seasonings i went to mash and they werr still hard. I dont want to reboil them because I've used the last of ny seasoning and the water would wash it away after draining. What can i do?
