Why is multiplayer in minecraft 1.6 update not working?

1.6 came out about a week ago and the new minecraft launcher keeps on telling me to play offline when my Internet is working and it says that single player and multiplayer have detected no problems. Please tell me how I can fix this problem or what should I wait?
