how do you do an aerial?

I am not a gymnast, but I really want to learn how to do an aerial. I can do a cartwheel, round off, a one handed cartwheel, and stuff like that, but I want to learn how to do an aerial. Whenever I try to do it I always put my hands down. Please help!
